Giving magnificent views of the Alcázar, the Royal Mint is located in a place of incomparable beauty, just outside the city walls, in the heart of the Eresma Valley. This was declared a Picturesque Site in 1947 and is found next to the Monastery of Santa María del Parral.
This privileged location was chosen by King Philip II to install his new and innovative Mint. The building was constructed between 1583 and 1588, following the designs of Juan de Herrera. Today it has become one of the most visited places in the city.
