Crafts
Souvenirs that are appreciated include unusual local foods and drinks, as well as local handicrafts that are only available in the region. Segovia has many special crafts. Ceramic jugs are one of the wonders of Spain's dry climate. The unglazed jugs are a natural fridge, thanks to the difference in temperature between the outside and inside air, and the ventilation of the unglazed ware.
The neighbouring city of La Granja is also famous for its glassware, as it was home to a very famous glass factory in the Middle Ages. There are also many unusual items, such as Christian amulets, which are unique to this Catholic country. Shopping for unique souvenirs from Segovia can also be fun.
Markets
If your are interested in open-air markets, the visitor should know that there you can buy everything from clothes, flowers, vegetables, household goods and antiques at low prices. These weekly markets are always held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in the following sequence:
Mondays: Tirso de Molina Square (Nueva Segovia neighborhood)Tuesdays: Berlin Street (San José neighborhood).Thursdays: Plaza Mayor (old town).Saturdays: Plaza del Carrasco (Santa Eulalia neighborhood).
On the other hand, the Union of Farmers of Segovia organizes a market of organic products on the first Saturday of each month in the Plaza del Doctor Laguna (next to the Post Office). This market offers from vegetables to vegetables through medicinal plants and infusions, cheeses and yogurts, eggs, chicken and pasta, legumes and seeds, bread, beer and oil, among others.
Consuming zero kilometer food products from the municipal market of La Albuera is a very healthy option since the quality of the raw material and lack of treatments for preservation. In addition, buying in these spaces ensures a more personalized treatment thanks to the recommendations of the professionals who work there.
Malls
If you are looking for commercial space, you can go to the Luz de Castilla Shopping Center (Centro Comercial Luz de Castilla), located on the outskirts of the city, with a wide variety of services, fashion, home, leisure and restaurants.
Some recommendations
Almost all establishments allow electronic payment with credit cards. Red 6000, Servired, Maestro, UnionPay, 4B and Visa are the cards commonly accepted by all businesses although, for greater security, we recommend asking before making purchases.
VAT is included in most of the prices, depending on the item, between 10% and 21%. If you belong to a country outside the European Union, you will be exempt from this tax in establishments with the 'Tax Free' sign.
The only currency authorized for purchases is the Euro. Currently there is no currency exchange office in the city, so you will have to withdraw cash from the wide network of ATMs available. Ask if there is a commission and pay attention to the exchange rate.
Finally, we remind you that if you have had any problems with your purchases, you can file your complaints with the Municipal Office of Consumer Information (OMIC), which is responsible for forwarding them to the competent body.
