Gate Of Santiago

Francisco Peralta Puppet Collection

This is one of the gates in the wall surrounding Segovia, known in 1122 as the Rodrigo Ordoñez Gate.

In the mid-13th century, it acquired its current name due to the nearby church dedicated to Santiago, which no longer exists.

It connected the upper town with the suburb of San Marcos and from there to the Camino Real de Castilla.

The defensive structure and interesting architecture can be appreciated, with exterior remains of sculptural elements and painting.

Sheltered in the arch is the image of the Virgen del Camino.

Inside is the excellent Puppet Collection of Francisco Peralta, considered one of the best puppeteers in Spain. The collection consists of 38 pieces representing characters from popular ballads, musical plots, classical literature and children's stories.

This space has a specialised bookshop on the wall, the world of puppets and marionettes.
