Segovia Museum
Designated a Site of Cultural Interest.
The Segovia Museum, formerly the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts, dates back to 1842. It was established with works from the convents dissolved under Mendizábal’s Confiscation, to which were subsequently added Roman and medieval inscriptions, architectural fragments from Segovian buildings, archaeological materials and numismatic pieces.
Highlights of its collection include two Celtiberian boar figures, Roman mosaics, Visigothic enamels, a large series of panels by Castilian and Flemish painters from the 15th and 16th centuries, and interesting collections of coins from the Segovia mint, glassware from La Granja, religious sculpture, engravings by Dürer and Rembrandt and other artists, and contemporary paintings.
It has moved location many times before reaching its current home, a fortification in the city walls known as Casa del Sol.
