Jewish Quarter Visitor Centre
The Jewish Quarter Visitor Center of Segovia is a space that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the Jewish community that inhabited the city during the Middle Ages.
Located in a historic building in the old Jewish quarter, this centre offers an enriching experience through informative panels and audiovisual resources such as the virtual Sephardic Shabbat ceremony, which allows us to participate in one of their most emblematic celebrations.
As visitors walk through the rooms, they can learn about the daily life of the Jewish community, its social organisation, its economic activity and its relationship with the rest of the city.
You can see objects and replicas of key elements of Sephardic culture.
In addition, aspects of coexistence that marked the history of the Jews in Segovia until their expulsion in 1492 are highlighted.
One of the most interesting spaces is dedicated to important figures in the community, such as Abraham Seneor, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community and financier of the Catholic Monarchs.
The importance of the Main Synagogue, now converted into the Convent of Corpus Christi, is also explained.
The centre is not only a place of learning, but also a place for reflection on the history of tolerance and cultural diversity in Spain.
Furthermore, its location in the heart of the Jewish quarter invites visitors to stroll through its narrow streets and discover other vestiges of Segovia's Sephardic past.
The Jewish Quarter Educational Centre can be accessed from the inner courtyard of what was once the home of Abraham Seneor.
After his death, this house was home to an illustrious descendant of Jewish converts: the doctor, humanist and scholar Andrés Laguna.
In the hallway of the house, you can visit a permanent exhibition about his life.
It offers visitors:
- Two rooms with audiovisual media to learn about the traditions, history and elements of Jewish culture, as well as the old medieval Jewish quarter of Segovia.
- A shop specialising in Hebrew with various publications on Jewish culture and tourist guides, and a wide range of gift items and souvenirs.
- Maps and tourist information.
