12. House Of Abraham Senneor
Home of distinguished dwellers
Rabbi Abraham Seneor is one of the most important figures of the Castilian Jewish community in the Middle Ages and the most important in the history of the Jewish community of Segovia.
Abraham Seneor spent the last years of his life in the Old Jewish Quarter, in a large house that reflected his importance. This building was one of the largest in the neighbourhood and was located at one end of the Jewish quarter.
The house consisted of two floors, a courtyard and a cellar, and its main door opened onto the Calle de la Judería Vieja, which is still the entrance to the house today. Given its structure, the house was an amalgamation of existing buildings.
A decade after his death, Abraham Seneor's house was divided into three homes, which is why today the buildings appear to be completely independent, although they still retain part of the original architecture despite the modifications made over the centuries.
One of them was the home of the distinguished physician and humanist Andrés Laguna, who was the doctor to important people such as Pope Julius III, Emperor Charles V and his son, Philip II.
The building currently houses the Educational Centre of the Jewish Quarter, a space for the awareness of Hebrew life in medieval Segovia.
