Royal Church Of San Miguel

Header image

This building is listed in the National Assets of Cultural Interest.

Built in the 16th century, it is made up of a single nave structure with a flat chancel. There are chapels between buttresses, one of which contains a Baroque altarpiece, by José Ferreras (1672). There is a funeral chapel of Doctor Andrés Laguna (16th century) as well as the Baroque chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Paz

This church came to replace another one, which collapsed in 1532 and is located in what is now the Plaza Mayor (the main square). In that church, a broad platform was erected for the proclamation of Queen Isabella I of Castile (Isabella the Catholic) on December 13th 1474.
