Jardines

Walking through the city is one of the pleasant and enjoyable ways of bringing nature, sport, and culture together. Segovia is surrounded by greenery, where you can find gardens reminiscent of cherry blossom trees and traditional styles.

Gardens are an expression of the country's natural beauty and became very popular in the XIX Century. The intramural gardens are located in the space once occupied by  lost churches or other type of building in the city. In the case of the gardens outside the walls, they are spaces that have been protected over the centuries for their value for agriculture and livestock, for religious activity or the recreation of kings and nobles that today are preserved for the enjoyment of citizens and are spaces of great natural wealth.

Garden of Words 

This garden on the north wall is planted with cherry blossom trees and Japanese characters carved in stone that define and symbolize the pillars of unity between all peoples of the earth with each other, between humanity and nature, and between our generation and those who will forever succeed us. The philosophy and ideas were jointly chosen by the Japanese calligrapher Tomoko Miyamoto and the staff of the Segovia City Council's Environmental Department.

Garden of the Poets 

This garden is in a privileged location, just five minutes from the Alcázar and adjacent to the Santiago Gate. The garden, which can be described as a balcony overlooking the Eresma Valley, offers a spectacular view of La Fuencisla Sanctuary, Vera Cruz Church, Santa María del Parral Monastery, and the Royal Mint.

Romeral de San Marcos 

At the foot of the Alcázar in Segovia, next to the 'Castile Bridge', is the private garden of landscape painter Leandro Silva (1930-2000). Its threshold, with its simple grilled door, invites us to penetrate the mysteries of its interior, perhaps suggesting a journey into our own inner garden.

Botanical garden 

This privileged space is planted with more than 70 species of trees and 100 species of shrubs, representative of the Segovian flora. The terraced layout is intended to trace the flora of Segovia, starting with a level area with shrubs, junipers, and gala oaks. Then, on the middle level, more typical specimens of urban ornamentation are found. The upper level has riverside and upland vegetation with wild pine and beech trees.

Thus, the 6,000m² park is a delightful example of the state's flora.

King's Garden 

Garden located at the western end of the Segovia Mint. It is a veritable secret garden in the purest Renaissance tradition.

It is in the Persian tradition, introduced to the Iberian Peninsula through the Islamic civilization, with its orchards with trellised paths, ponds and irrigation channels, and the new way of making gardens that developed in 16th century Italy after the discovery of perspective and its optical effects.
